Cleric urges fed govt to end illegal possession of firearms

A Cleric, Christopher Owolabi, wants the Federal Government to end the increase in the possession of firearms by unauthorised persons, saying that it posed a threat to the nation’s unity, peace and stability.
The minister in charge of Christ Apostolic Church, Ori-Oke Irapada, along Omu-Aran-Iloffa Expressway, Omu-Aran Pastor K. Owolabi said this.
He made the call during a special prayer for the sustenance of the nation’s democratic system and economic growth in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara on Friday.
The cleric, who spoke against the backdrop of the recent killings during a church service in Ozubulu, Anambra, described the development as a threat to the nation’s growth and peaceful co-existence.
He said that the ugly situation was also a threat to the sustenance of the nation’s highly cherished democracy.
According to him, such evil act require the prompt attention of both the state House of Assembly and the National Assembly.
Owolabi urged the National Assembly to undertake the review of the existing law guiding arms possession.
The cleric noted that the issue of arms proliferation was already instilling fear in the minds of the citizens
