NGO urges CAC leaders on Christians participation in 2019 election

In a bid to encourage more participation of Christians in politics, a nongovernmental organization, Legacy Initiative International on Monday June 4, 2018 paid a courtesy visit to the authorities of Christ Apostolic Church, Worldwide at the CAC Secretariat in Ibadan, Oyo state.

The group was led by its President, Dr. Bolaji Akinyemi. Others who are part of the delegation are Grand Patron, Dr. Kenny Martins, Patron, Apostle Bayo Babalola, Patron, Bishop Oscar Ozaie, Women Leader, Princess Dozie and Treasurer, Lady Evang. Bolatito.

The Grand Patron of the group, Dr. Kenny Martins appreciated the authorities of CAC Worldwide for the opportunity given to meet with them.

He enumerated the functions of the group which is enshrined in their constitution, which revolves round good governance and prayers.

Dr. Martins emphasised on the relationship between the church and the government that if there is a synergy between them, the country will be better.

According to him, the church in Nigeria has been lagging behind due to lack of participation in governance, saying that the church is expected to be the voice of the people.

Furthermore, he made clarification about how Christianity is the second leg in the political setting of Nigeria, stating that Nigeria has been standing on one leg since its inception.

He noted that if there is unity between the two major religions in this country, all the pending problems will be resolved, concluding that the main reason of their coming is to sensitize the church about the benefits of working with the two legs and unity amongst Christians in governance.

One of the Patrons of Legacy Initiative International, Bishop Oscar Ozaie appreciated the Authorities of CAC Worldwide.

He used the opportunity to invite the President of CAC Worldwide, Pastor A. O. Akinosun for the proposed meeting of all church leaders coming up soon, which Sir Kesinton Adebutu will host.

The Bishop added that they have contacted some religious leaders which includes; Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Primate of Anglican and Catholic, and they are also meeting with the Baptist President who is also the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) President, Dr. Supo Ayokunle.

He concluded by informing the house that they will as well pay the Sultan of Sokoto a visit to synergize a working relationship between the two major religions.

Apostle Bayo Babalola who is also one of the Patrons of the group said the meeting is not a ploy to tarnish the good image of the CAC Worldwide.

The President of CAC Worldwide, Pastor A. O. Akinosun welcomed all the members of the Initiative and commended them for their good work.

He said this movement coming at this time is an answer to prayers.

He pointed out that the major reason for the lack of participation of Christians in politics is ‘fear’, adding that only prayer can chart out a way forward for the country, quoting Psalm 24.

Pastor Akinosun concluded by appreciating them for their partnership with the church in the time past.
