The Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,
Professor Yemi Osinbajo paid a private visit to the President of Christ
Apostolic Church (Worldwide), Pastor A. O. Akinosun at the Mission’s General
Secretariat, Basorun, Ibadan on Friday, June 8, 2018.
The CAC President commended the Federal Government for her
recent conferment of the highest honour in the land on Late Chief Moshood
Olawale Abiola and the recognition of June 12 as a National Holiday for
Democracy in Nigeria.
He said this action will go a long way to healing the wound
inflicted by the act of injustice of the past military government that annulled
the freest and fairest election of June 12, 1993.
He also commended President Buhari on his dogged
determination to fight the hydra-headed monster of corruption in Nigeria.
Pastor Akinosun urged the Federal Government not to rest on
her oars in the area of security and make sure terrorism is totally
exterminated in Nigeria.
"I want to urge President Buhari to continue with the
fight against corruption. I will equally urge him to look into the complaint of
his critics that the battle appears lop-sided. He should therefore balance the
fight. Corruption is corruption, no matter the political colours of the
culprit, every act of the corrupt affects the whole nation negatively.
Therefore, let there be no sacred cow. Let the fight be total. In doing so, I
pray that God would strengthen the hand of this government to do more exploit
in Jesus' name."
"We are praying for this government to succeed in all
its efforts to make this nation great again because we know that those in
government are facing a daunting task. The dimensions these challenges present
themselves are multifarious. It will take the grace of God and divine wisdom to
tackle them," Pastor Akinosun noted.
While speaking on religious freedom, the Cleric said;
"the government's romance with Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC)
made us to become curious to know what the organization stands for. We have
been well educated that the OIC's main objectives are geared towards advancing
Islam in all its member countries. We have further realised that the OIC
prescribes that certain offices must be held by Muslims in all its members
states. The offices are the headship of all the Armed Forces, the Police, the
Customs, the Immigration and other security outfits."
"This is where we are alarmed because not only has
Nigeria government of today met all these conditions, it has tacitly, by its
inaction, lent credence to the view of those who were accusing her of foisting
a religious agenda. The heads of those institutions today are not only Muslims,
most of them come from one part of the country."
"I therefore want to appeal to the President to look at
the composition of the headship of all our security agencies and let them
reflect the federal character of the country in religious and geographical
spread."
In response, the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo
commended Christ Apostolic Church for fervent prayers for the success of Buhari
Administration and promised that the Federal Government would forge ahead to
improve on her achievements so far.
Osinbajo denied the insinuation that Buhari has an Islamic
agenda, challenging Christian leaders to also have Christianity agenda.
On fight against corruption, the Vice President said
majority of those who are facing trials are APC members, adding that President
Buhari is not partial in his fight against corruption.
